Job Summary:
The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for the prevention, surveillance, and control of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) within the facility. The role ensures compliance with UAE regulatory requirements and international infection prevention standards while promoting a culture of patient safety and quality care.
Key Responsibilities:
Infection Prevention & Control
- Develop, implement, and monitor infection prevention and control (IPC) programs.
- Ensure compliance with DHA / DOH / MOH, WHO, and CDC guidelines.
- Establish and update infection control policies and procedures.
- Monitor adherence to hand hygiene, PPE usage, and sterilization protocols.
Surveillance & Reporting
- Conduct ongoing surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
- Track infection rates and analyze trends.
- Report findings to management and regulatory bodies as required.
- Investigate outbreaks and implement corrective action plans.
Audit & Compliance
- Perform regular infection control audits (clinical areas, equipment, processes).
- Identify gaps and recommend improvements.
- Ensure readiness for accreditation (JCI, ISO, etc.) and inspections.
Staff Training & Education
- Conduct training sessions on infection control practices and protocols.
- Educate healthcare staff on proper hygiene, sterilization, and safety measures.
- Promote awareness campaigns for infection prevention.
Risk Management
- Participate in risk assessments related to infection control.
- Investigate incidents and perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Implement preventive measures to reduce infection risks.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Work closely with clinical teams, housekeeping, and facility management.
- Collaborate with quality and patient safety departments.
- Participate in infection control committees and multidisciplinary meetings.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records of infection control activities and reports.
- Ensure documentation meets regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Support policy development and updates.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSc Nursing) or equivalent.
- Postgraduate qualification in Infection Control or Public Health is an advantage.
License:
- Valid UAE Nursing License or Eligibility (DHA / DOH / MOH).
Certifications (Preferred):
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or equivalent
- Training in infection prevention (WHO / CDC programs)
Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of nursing experience.
- At least 1–2 years of experience in infection control role preferred.
- Experience in hospital or acute healthcare setting is required.
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of infection control principles and practices
- Familiarity with UAE healthcare regulations and international standards
- Data analysis and reporting skills
- Auditing and compliance monitoring
- Strong communication and training skills
- Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
Working Conditions:
- Primarily day shift with availability for emergencies or outbreaks
